my mission

Providing insightful consultations, education, and support to improve the lives of adults touched by cognitive loss.

Dr. Kelly Davis Garrett, PhD

Bio

Dr.  Garrett  is a neuropsychologist— a  specialist  in how the brain affects our thinking, feeling, and behaviors. She’s an expert in conditions like vascular dementia, Alzheimer’s, and multiple sclerosis.   She assesses people’s thinking abilities and helps those with physical or neurological issues, like diabetes or depression, to improve their brain function and  performance.

Since 2002, she has worked in neurorehab, geriatrics, primary care, neurology, pulmonology and research settings in Utah, while also volunteering with wellness/health-related non-profit organizations. In addition to providing diagnostic cognitive assessments, she works with adults with known physical conditions (e.g., diabetes, sleep apnea, depression, long Covid) or neurologic diagnoses who want to improve brain performance while managing chronic conditions. Assessing both strengths and weaknesses, using the Boston Process Approach to Assessment, and involvement of family, care partners and other social supports in collaboratively developing a cognitive care plan are the hallmarks of her practice.

Here are some of Dr. Garrett's career highlights:

--PhD Drexel University, Internship Brown University (Neuropsychology Track), Post-doc Fellowship: Cache County Study on Memory, Health & Aging (Utah State University)

--co-developer of the Care Process Model for Mild Cognitive Impairment & Dementia for Intermountain Health

--volunteered with an interdisciplinary team in Salt Lake County to protect vulnerable adults with District Attorney, APS, ombudsman, County Aging Services

--certified to evaluate healthcare professionals and later served as a faculty examiner for candidates for the that certificate from the California Public Protection & Physician Health

--advocacy to protect the responsible practice of prospective cognitive screening of older adults at the Utah legislature

--co-developer of the Philadelphia repeatable verbal learning test-- English, Mandarin, Czech, and Farsi versions

--co-developer of the cognitive vital signs tracker on the MS Care Connect app.

--regularly  cultivates  training  experiences  for  professionals including graduate  students,  doctors,  lawyers  and  ski  &  snowboard  instructors.
