Cognitive decline can threaten a person's ability to make reasoned decisions about their living situation, self-care and financial matters. Scammers can wipe out assets that have taken a lifetime to build, and a person with changes in decision-making capacity may not be able to discern between a good deal or helpful person and someone who has malintent. When someone needs help with decision making, it can be complicated to know the best way to help, and how to navigate the legal paperwork and procedures to assign a power of attorney, or establish a conservatorship or guardianship. Dr. Garrett works with clients experiencing cognitive loss, their families and attorneys to assess capacities and determine what supports (if any) are needed.
Physicians and other health care providers are in high accountability positions, where there is high scrutiny and little room for error. But doctors are human, and may experience cognitive loss with aging and other health conditions which could threaten their ability to perform at work and provide safe and excellent care to patients. Dr. Garrett is a Certified Evaluator of Health Care Professionals and regularly consults with Medical Staff and Health Care Organizations regarding Late Career Medical Staff, as well as with individual physicians who wish to maintain (or increase) cognitive performance.
